Yozora Mikazuki by Good Smile Company
Project details
Destructive personalities is a small fascination of mine and one character living up to such a trait is Yozora Mikazuki from Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai in where Yozora is often seen arguing with another strong-willed female in Sena Kashiwazaki. Because of the character’s solitary nature she’s initially seen as keeping to herself while talking to an imaginary friend.
Yozora is a 1/7 scale that measures roughly 22 cm (8.7 in) tall. The pose is taken from the cover of the first Japanese light novel which was published back in 2009.
Good Smile Company have simplified the figure by skipping the messy hair and an almost sinister gaze presented by the source material. The hints of uneasiness and annoyance are still intact, backed up by crossed arms and twisting legs to heighten the mood.
Depending on how you choose to display or look at the figure you’ll be seeing two intertwining expressions, one being of a bitter and angry nature and the other being a bit more subtle showing traces of gloom.
Good Smile have done a good job with Yozora and my only complaint would be that the wrinkled skirt looks a bit bulky rather than fluid as the fabric turns. A non-figure related blunder is how Good Smile for unknown reasons printed “Mikaduki” on the box, a somewhat sloppy mistake in production.

I won’t lie as I saw this figure on Mikatan I wasn’t very amused by the figure, the face expression seemed kind of odd. With your pictures you’ve showed that the facial impression changes a bit depending on the angle. I really like the expression in picture14 and 16 which is more on the cute side ^^
Pose and outfit are nicely done, especially the school uniform shows so many details and has nice folds.
My opinion about GSC’s Yozora changed a bit to the better now, I still wish there was a Yozora I would like enough to consider a purchase.
To use this blackboard was a cool idea and your lighting looks very good.
I have to say it again picture 16 is so nice I like the atmosphere it creates.
Nightmare
There’s nothing wrong with expressing concerns regarding a figure. I can sympathize with people that were angered over the fact that the final version of Yozora wasn’t as angry as she was in the promotional shots but it’s not like they turned her frown upside down. She’s now more in tune with the artwork where the killing intent was missing as well. By slightly raising her eyebrows she shows off two different kinds of emotions which I think is pretty cool considering her personality in the series.
I’d love to see either Alter’s or Native’s take on Yozora in her zebra swimsuit, minus the horse head.
Miette-chan
Yozora looks fairly nice, a bit boring but it’s not like you can put her in some dramatic pose given the context of the show. I’m a bit disappointed that GSC went more for the look of the anime rather than the illustrations but other than that it’s a nicely done simple figure.
Nightmare
Good Smile tend to focus on recognition, which would explain why Yozora spends most of her time pissed off in school. It would’ve been neat to see them give it a go with the illustration but one would probably have to rely on Alter or Max Factory for that.
