Shinobu Oshino by Good Smile Company
Project details
From badass slaughterhouse vampire in Kizumonogatari, to shy and powerless in Bakemonogatari, to sadistic and au naturel in Nisemonogatari. A graceful journey starring Shinobu Oshino, a character baring her fangs at the scent of blood and donuts alike.
Being a 1/8 scale and roughly 12 cm / 4.7″ tall, Shinobu rests on a mountain of flour and sugar topped off with the remnants of her fellow cast.
The various loose parts accompanying Shinobu are all optional; the colorful base, the flight cap and that circular delight that’s usually stuffed in her mouth. Thanks to a rather
flat rear, similar to that of Kanbaru’s, it gives you the freedom to place her on most surfaces without issue.
The single donut is a little trickier to attach but if you tilt it slightly while sliding the peg in rather than pushing it you should be good to go.
Just like with previous figures from the series the base is filled with an abundance of details including accessories and body parts of Bakemonogatari’s major characters. I do believe the single geta visible on the left side at the back of the base belongs to the character responsible for naming Shinobu, Meme Oshino.
While Shinobu Oshino closes the chapter of Bakemonogatari scales from Good Smile Company her past self will eventually return in the future as vampiric entity Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade. As much as I enjoy this rendition of Shinobu I’m equally excited for her future old self to make a comeback.

I really like this Shinobu figure, out of the whole series of figures this is probably my favorite. A nice way to close the batch given the base includes a bit from everyone.
Nightmare
Eight characters in one creation is a pretty sweet deal. Nadeko may still be my favorite of the bunch but Shinobu definitely holds her own. I wouldn’t mind seeing future scales of the Fire Sister either, or the rest of the Nisemonogatari cast for that matter.
Tier
She’s really cute; I had thought about ordering her but my unfamiliarity with Bakemonogatari coupled with a ton of other figures getting bumped to this month militated against purchasing her. I’m not sure what the significance of the doughnut motif is, but it’s one of my favorite parts of this figure. Though seeing Nadeko’s hat there but no Nadeko is a bit ominous. This may be an instance where my not having seen the show might be an advantage, since my mind is free to conjure up all sorts of scenarios as to how Shinobu got that hat and what might have happened to its former wearer.
Nightmare
As far as I recall, Shinobu’s artwork which is taken from the Bakemonogatari DVD cover doesn’t exactly reflect the story unlike the other covers from the series. It does portray her ruthless cruelty in the sense that she probably wouldn’t have minded devouring the entire cast in order to survive as a vampire. The dough obsession is not clear to me but I guess you need something sweet after all that metal.
I try (but seldom succeed) to exclude the requirement of being familiar with a specific character prior to buying the figure. That may go against the whole point of collecting figures of characters you like but as I’ve come to enjoy photography, probably more so than the collecting of said figures some things have to give at times. Although, if there’s a great looking figure of a character that’s known to me then that would be the perfect balance between the two hobbies.

She gained so much more personality in Nisemonogatari such an enchanting vampire loli ^-^. Well, back then I hadn’t ordered her because I was a huge fan of Shinobu, my decision was rather based on the cool design of the figure.
As she arrived last week, I was surprised by the quality shading on her dress, she turned out so nice. Its a cool feature that the figure can be taken off her base, you get a lot more possibilities for displaying and making pictures of her.
I like your pictures with the sweet stuff and the plate, 9,11 and 13 are especially nice =)
Nightmare
Shinobu literally transformed throughout the light novels and played a rather small part in Bakemonogatari so seeing her emerge from Araragi’s shadow and being so vocal in Nisemonogatari was quite refreshing. While I still like this figure a lot, the main reason in grabbing her was to complete the set from GSC.
Yeah I thought that Shinobu looked much better when seeing her up close but I guess that goes for most figures. It’s cool when manufacturers are able to incorporate a base without tying down the figure, giving you the freedom of choice when it comes to placement.
Working with food was an interesting experience, mostly due to the frosting disapproving of being taken out of the colder habitat.
